I am a 69-year-old retiree. I worked for 43 years in the Pulp & Paper Industry, most of the time in Maintenance. After graduating from High School in 1960, I worked for a short time in the Pulp Mill prior to joining the US Air Force. After Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas I attended the Air Police Technical School at the same location. My first duty station was at Galena Air Force Station near Galena, Alaska. Galena is located on the Yukon River and at the time I was there was a Fighter Interceptor Base. After a year in Alaska, I was next stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, WA in January 1962. While in Spokane I met and married the love of my life, Darlene. We have been married 48 very good years and have two daughters and two grandchildren. When I was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force in 1964, Darlene and I moved so that I could return to my job in the Pulp Mill. After 30 years we moved to another area and after 13 more years I completed my career in this industry, retiring in 2002. I now work part-time with my wife delivering cars for a local car dealership and spending as much time in my wood working shop as I can.
I am a Christian and have fairly Conservative views, both socially and fiscally. My intentions are to share my experiences and views. Some of my views will use illustrations from my life and associations. I will be critical of wasteful Government programs, but that does not mean that I am critical of friends and relatives. These folks are just the beneficiaries of misguided and wasteful Government policies and regulation and receiving what the Government allows.
I Don’t Like This Change (11/21/2012)
As I start trying to fill my opinions section, I am having a hard time deciding where to start. The America that I have grown up and aged in is not anything like it was. As I think about it I wonder how it happened.
I remember shows on the television like “I love Lucy” and “Leave it to Beaver” among many others. I remember when Jack Parr, the late night host, got in trouble for using the word “pregnant”. What a different world we live in today. This morning I asked my wife if she had watched the show “Parenthood” last night and she said she hadn’t, but had watched it a couple of times in the past but turned it off, because of the content and morals it portrayed. She is right we have been brainwashed into believing or not believing whatever the entertainment folks want us to.
I think how innocent the show “Three’s Company” was. This sitcom was about a guy living with two girls and was on from 1977 to 1984.. If I remember right, up until this time unmarried folks living together was not the norm. Now we have college boys and girls living in the same dorm room. It wasn’t long before other lifestyles along with abortion started to be topics in the same innocent ways. Now it seems anything goes.
I am not a prude, but because of my beliefs I would be considered a bigot. The changes that are now happening are very emotional, no matter what side of the issue you are on and as a result I believe our grand country is being torn apart. I wish it was not this way, why do we have to characterize everything as wins or losses?
